Candidates must hold the ITEC Level 3 Anatomy & Physiology or equivalent in order to complete this course. This can be studied concurrently with this unit.
Students are required to carry out case studies which form the internal part of the assessment. These are carried out throughout the year and are assessed by the tutor. The course is completed by candidates carrying out an external practical examination. There are examination papers which are completed at the end of every unit.
Units covered include:
- The history, theory and philosophy of body massage
- Definition and purpose of massage
- Psychological and physiological effects of massage
- Contra-indications to massage
- An introduction to other natural therapies
- Professional conduct/business awareness
- First aid
Students will be expected to carry out practical work on each other and then progress to client volunteers from within the community.
Assessment takes the form of a multiple choice modular paper in Holistic Massage, Professional Conduct and Business Awareness. There are also practical exams which are assessed both internally and externally.
Students must be prepared to complete case studies during the course and keep accurate records.
What are the entry requirements?
It is recommended that candidates should have achieved a level of education equivalent to 5 GCSE's, grades A-C preferably in English and science. However exceptions will be made for candidates with appropriate life skills.
