Graphic Design

Graphic design is used whenever visual clarity and creativity are applied to the presentation of text and imagery. Contemporary design practice has been extended to user interfaces for the modern computer, often referred to as interactive design, or multimedia design.

This intensive one-year programme will provide candidates with a thorough grounding in the graphic and typographic design skills needed for working in publishing, design practices and advertising.

This course is specifically aimed at candidates who have creative skills and are able to support this with a portfolio of work when called for interview.

During the course, candidates will gain experience in the software used to create and manipulate images for designing purposes.

The introductory phase of the programme concentrates on developing the skills and knowledge of the design process while exploring their creative potential and areas of interest.

The second phase provides the candidate with the opportunity to extend and apply their skills and ideas within a specialist area related to graphic design such as illustration, typography, advertising design or digital design.

The course culminates in a major design project which draws together the various strands of learning covered during the first two phases.

Throughout the course candidates are supported by lectures, studio projects, workshops and tutorials.

Candidates are offered enrichment modules as part of this diploma. Examples of the enrichment modules include: desktop publishing, photography, animation etc.

Entry Requirements:

4 GCSE's (grade A-C) or equivalent or you should provide evidence of relevant professional experience. All applicants called for interview are required to submit a portfolio of recent creative work. This can be examples of GCSE or previous course work.
