Aromatherapy is the study and application of plant essential oils to the body usually by massage through baths, compresses and inhalations are also used.

Candidates must hold the ITEC Level 3 Anatomy & Physiology or equivalent in order to complete this course. A massage qualification is preferred when embarking on this course of study.

The course will include the safe and effective use of essential oils for many common ailments and for general well-being. The massage has been specifically developed for aromatherapy using pressure points and energy techniques. Aromatherapy can be used to good effect on may ailemnts, including skin conditions, muscular aches and pains, colds and sinus problems, digestive problems and emotional upsets. This is a fully comprehensive, professional course covering all important practical and theoretical aspects of aromatherapy treatment and its use in a practice.  

Subjects covered by the course include:                 
  • History, theory and philosophy of aromatherapy
  • Therapeutic properties of essential oils
  • Latin names, chemical constituents, countries of origin
  • Carrier oils and their properties
  • Blending of essential oils and synergies
  • Contra-indications and safety data
  • Introduction to other complementary therapies
  • Commons disorders that have a favourable reaction to treatment.
 
There are practical exams assessed both internally and externally. Students must be prepared to complete case studies during the course and keep accurate records.

What are the entry requirements?

It is recommended that candidates should have achieved a level of education equivalent to 5 GCSE's, grades A-C preferably in English and science. Candidates must hold the ITEC Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology or equivalent in order to complete this course. A massage qualification (ITEC level 3 or equivalent) is preferred when embarking on this course of study. Exceptions will be made for candidates with appropriate life skills.
