Business Award Winners 2011


 
We are pleased to announce the winners of this years Jewish Business Awards 2011. The following winners were announced at the enormously successful TrainE-TraidE Business Awards Lunch at the Millennium Hotel London Mayfair, which recognised and celebrated the best businesses and individuals from within the Jewish community.


The Maurice Wohl Charitable Foundation Business Lifetime Achievement Award


David Lewis CBE

 
David Lewis was born on 2nd June 1924 above his father’s greengrocer’s shop in Finsbury Park, London, joined subsequently by three younger brothers.  Although his father was born in the UK, all his grandparents were immigrants, his father’s family from the Ukraine and his mother’s from Romania.

He received a Grammar School education and did not go to University.  He volunteered for Air Crew duties during the l939 – 45 War, serving as a Navigator in Bomber Command.

Leaving the RAF, he took Articles and qualified as a Chartered Accountant, setting up as an independent practitioner almost immediately.

In 1951 he married Ruth Benjamin, to whom he has now been married just under 60 years, with five children (three boys and two girls) and eleven grand children ranging from 0 to 26 years of age.

In 1952, together with his brothers, he founded the family company which has expanded over the years to include:-

Lewis Separates, changed to Chelsea Girl, now changed to River Island.

Isrotel (hotels in Israel;  formerly hotels in Spain and currently in the U.S.)

Cavendish Asset Management (portfolio management).

Property Development and Investment (mainly UK and USA).

Interests have included charitable (donations totalling some thirty million pounds {£30,000,000} have been allocated over the last ten years to UK and Israeli charities).

Public advocacy on behalf of Israel (founder membership of Bipac/Bicom and Conservative Friends of Israel).

Hobbies include yachting and flying (he has flown the Company aircraft from 1972 to the present date).

David Lewis was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Honour’s List in 1995.




Challengeyour.com

 

Challengeyour.com is a regulated claims management company helping consumers claim compensation for having been mis-sold financial products by their bank or lender. 

The company was set up in early 2007 with no outside investment, and to date, has helped more than 15,000 clients and has shown very strong growth year on year.    

As well as expansion on current products, Challengeyour.com has recently opened its own law firm to take advantage of the Alternative Business Structure rules which allow non lawyers to own shares in a law firm, with the intention of becoming a market leader in all consumer related claims.

 

 



The Highland Egg Company


The Highland Egg Company operates a state-of-the-art Free Range egg farm in the Scottish Highlands housing 32,000 hens.

A business “totally out of the box” as far as the Jewish community is concerned, The Highland Egg Company produces 26,000 eggs a day, and have a 5 year supply contract with Noble Foods.

The company hope to purchase a ‘pelletizer’ that will allow them to pelletize the 4 tons of manure produced daily, package it so that it is suitable for retail and, supply it into the Garden Centre industry.


 



Nathan Ginsbury - Rocket Production



Rocket Production has been established for over 25 years and is now the leading supplier of electronic POP components supplying LEDs, sound units, motors and LCD monitors for the Point of Purchase industry. Nathan joined Rocket Production in 2005 and has overseen a steady growth of the company since he has joined. One of Nathan’s major achievements includes starting up a mirrored version of his successfully built UK model in the US.
